As life comes to a close, most people hope to look back on their lives with satisfaction.

The goals and dreams of different personalities vary, so do they feel satisfied with their lives?

To explore this question, the official 16Personalities website launched a relevant questionnaire.

High Life Satisfaction: The EJ Group
According to the official 16Personalities website, the personality types that are most likely to agree with the statement "When you look back on your life, you are mostly satisfied" are:

  • No. 1: 81.7% of ESFJs (The Consul)
  • No. 2: 80.4% of ENFJs (The Protagonist)
  • No. 3: 80.3% of ESTJs (The Executive)
  • No. 4: 75.5% of ESTPs (The Entrepreneur)
  • No. 5: 74.2% of ENTJs (The Commander)
  • No. 6: 73.8% of ENFPs (The Campaigner)

Overall, more sociable extroverts are more likely to be satisfied with their lives.

76% of "E types" agreed, while only 56% of "I types" agreed.

The SJ (blue) group (73% agreed) had the highest average satisfaction among the four groups: the NF (green) group had a 66% agreement rate, the SP (yellow) group had a 65% agreement rate, and the NT (purple) group had the lowest (59% agreed).

This is especially true for extroverted + feeling types (E_F), which makes ESFJs the personality type most likely to agree that they are satisfied with their lives.

Relationships are the top priority for ESFJ personalities, so as long as their relationships are going well, they are likely to feel very content.

As long as they have accomplished most of what they wanted to in their lives and continue to do so, they will be very satisfied. You can take a free mbti test to see where you stand.

Lower Satisfaction: The IP Group
Conversely, which personality types have lower life satisfaction?

  • No. 1: 44.6% of INTPs (The Logician)
  • No. 2: 50.8% of INFPs (The Mediator)
  • No. 3: 53.6% of ISTPs (The Virtuoso)
  • No. 4: 54.6% of INTJs (The Architect)
  • No. 5: 55.6% of ISFPs (The Adventurer)
  • No. 6: 58.7% of INFJs (The Advocate)
A bar chart titled "I am generally satisfied with my life in retrospect," showing the percentage of each MBTI personality type that agrees with the statement.

At No. 1, INTPs (The Logician) have significantly lower satisfaction than other NT personalities, with only 45% of people considering themselves generally satisfied with their lives.

The intuitive + thinking traits lead them to spend a lot of time (and energy) generating ideas and theories.

Logicians may be the most analytical of the NT group, and they seem to effortlessly delve into complex and abstract worlds of thought.

The combination of introverted and prospecting traits creates a paradox of doubt, which may prevent Logicians from gaining satisfaction.

For IP types, the freedom to explore their passions and creativity is very important for a sense of well-being.

If they feel they don't have the freedom to truly take risks and experience things, they will feel trapped and suffocated.

Furthermore, to gain more satisfaction, balancing alone time and social interaction is also particularly important. You can also explore our personality chemistry in other types.

How to Find Your Fulfillment
According to the data, Assertive (-A) personality types are 27% more likely to feel satisfied than Turbulent (-T) personality types (82% and 55% respectively agreed).

Confidence does not directly lead to satisfaction. But satisfaction does enhance your confidence.

Research shows that success alone does not necessarily bring happiness or a sense of purpose to our lives.

On the other hand, fulfillment is the satisfaction and meaning we get from living a life that aligns with our values and beliefs; it gives us purpose.

Some researchers studying the dying have found that a common answer to the question "What is your biggest regret in life?" is: "I wish I had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me."

In our society, we have become accustomed to prioritizing external motivations, such as money, social status, and external expectations and praise.

If this sounds like you, then you are looking for happiness and satisfaction in the wrong places. Instead, you need to look inward.

Intrinsic motivation is an energy that does not need to be induced.

I would be more satisfied if everything were executed clearly according to instructions and if my social status improved.

Cautious Mediator: Kate (INFP-T)

My mood is like a whirlwind, from heaven to hell, changing constantly. Every day, every hour, every minute. So when it comes to my life satisfaction, sometimes I feel like everything is wonderful, and sometimes I feel like "everything is terrible." So, I don't know. If you ask me how my life is, it largely depends on how I feel at that moment.

Cautious Logician: ejl (INTP-T)

I find that INTPs/INFPs are so focused on what they want in the future that they forget life is happening now. People need to relax. Work, go out with friends. Go out for dinner occasionally. Read some books. Enjoy life. Enjoy your time on Earth online. You'd be surprised at how short it actually is.
